Noreen R. Martin
Noreen Martin is the dynamic and energetic Chief Executive Officer of Martin Resorts, a family-owned organization on California’s vineyard covered Central Coast.
One of the area’s top 20 employers, Martin Resorts is headquartered in San Luis Obispo (Oprah’s 2011 pick for “America’s Happiest City”) where tourism fuels the local county economy. Martin Resorts was founded in 1998 by Noreen and her late husband, Tom Martin. As a widow with a young child, she drove her business to thrive as one of the top private, woman-owned employers in the county. Noreen Martin, with the support of her daughters, Laura Sherlock, Julie Martin and Meghan Martin, has succeeded in building a highly respected collection of boutique hotels that specialize in enhancing the experience of its guests while giving back to the community. From the relaxed seaside atmosphere of the Best Western Plus-Shore Cliff Lodge, to the luxurious oceanfront privacy of The Inn at the Cove, to the plush all-suite comfort of the Pismo and Avila Lighthouse Suites, to the authentic American wine country accommodations of the historic Paso Robles Inn, Martin’s meticulous attention to detail makes our collection of properties the envy of all Central California luxury accommodations.
In a county heavily dependent upon tourism, when Noreen became board president of Visit San Luis Obispo County, she rolled up her sleeves to help restructure the organization, make it exceedingly functional and establish one of the most successful events in the county, “Savor the Central Coast” in partnership with Sunset Magazine.
In May of 2012, Noreen was appointed as a Commissioner for Visit California, the official tourism board of California. In January of 2014, she took on a new role as Chief Fiscal Officer and is now bringing her expertise and passion for tourism to a state level.
In addition to her dedication within the tourism community, Noreen dedicates her time to many boards and organizations within the San Luis Obispo business community, including:
- Economic Vitality Corporation Board Member
- Economic Strategy Project Sponsor and Co-Chair
- Cal Poly University Athletic Director’s Council Member
- Cal Poly University President’s Local Economic Development Committee Member
- Cal Poly University Recreation, Parks & Tourism Administration Advisory Council Member
- Sunset Travel Awards Advisory Board Member and Judge of the Sunset Travel Awards 2015
Also active philanthropically, Noreen was appointed by the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Judge to be a CASA Advocate. She is a past board member of Transitions Mental Health and a recipient of the 2009 Champions for Children Award. Noreen was also lauded for her efforts on behalf of the children of San Luis Obispo County in initiating and founding the Paso Robles Children’s Museum where she is an honorary chair.
Noreen lives in Shell Beach with her husband Christopher Hulburd, M.D., of Pacific Eye Surgeons. Her daughter Meghan is now attending UC Berkley. All are active in local community organizations with an emphasis on women, children and education.
